Soprano and author Sharon L. Stohrer specializes in helping musicians and public speakers overcome performance anxiety through individual coaching and group workshops. Sharon maintains a private studio where she welcomes beginners as well as singers of intermediate and advanced technique.

Fostering excellence through years of experience


Sharon earned a B.A. from Kalamazoo College, an M.A.L.S. from Wesleyan University and an M.M. in vocal performance from The Boston Conservatory. A recipient of the Irving S. Gilmore Grant for Emerging Artists, her operatic and oratorio experience has ranged from the soprano soloist in the Mozart Requiem to Anna in Weill's Seven Deadly Sins to Mimi in La Boheme. Sharon specializes in recitals with emphasis in contemporary music, American repertoire, and chamber works.

Sharon has taught voice and related areas such as acting and stagecraft, vocal literature, lyric diction, and vocal pedagogy for the Conservatory of Music at Capital University in Columbus; OH; The New York University; the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York; Newberry College and Anderson University in South Carolina; Mount Wachusett College in Massachusetts; and Keene State College in New Hampshire.

She has directed programs of opera scenes, offered master classes on various topics, and led numerous webinars and workshops on overcoming performance anxiety for several schools and organizations; including Slippery Rock University PA, in November 2020, the Gay Men’s Chorus in July 2020, and National SNATS (Student NATS) Chat on Overcoming Performance Anxiety in April 2018. Sharon was also honored to have been chosen as a presenter at the NATS 50th National Conference in 2008, and at the New York State School Music Association Convention in 2005.

Sharon has published articles in Classical Singer Magazine and the NATS Journal of Singing. She has also worked with online vocal training services, such as Get Vocal Now. Her book, The Singer's Companion, is available on Amazon and her new book on conquering performance anxiety, The Empowered Performer, is also available on Amazon.
