Being There for Yourself

It is often said that we teach what we most need to learn. Today’s topic is an example for me. For those of us in helping professions: teachers, clergy, therapists as well as students in mentoring and helping positions, it can be easy to give so much to those we guide or assist, that we become depleted. Remembering to give back to ourselves is SO important, and something I am endeavoring to keep in mind more of the time.

What are you currently doing to be there for yourself?

How can you be there for yourself? Perhaps set a timer on your phone for every hour or so and go for a short stroll or listen to 5 minutes of music you enjoy. Perhaps you can be more self-aware while assisting others. It can be SO easy to give out a lot of energy—let your students or your clients or your friends come to you more. Welcome them, mentally embrace them, but let the energy flow be balanced. And how about a day off? Or part of one? What will nourish you???
