Emerging with Song

During a visit to Rome, I was amused to see an ordinary man throw open his front door and venture into the day as he serenaded the world with full throated singing.  What a picture he made!

After all the fear and trauma and cocooning brought on by the pandemic, it is hard to imagine emerging into post-vaccinated life with such panache.

Yet I have found during many of life’s challenges, including the death of friends and family, divorce, economic hardships and so forth, that singing helps.  It feels like the LAST thing we want to do at such times, but the magic of music, the endorphins released by deep breathing, the greater sense of living in the moment and fully inhabiting the body all help banish anxiety and soothe the soul.

Unlike the man in Rome, we might think of a slower, softer entry—more like a flower slowly poking its head up from the soil.

Going gently, taking small steps to reclaim our voices: humming while walking, singing softly while doing chores, putting on some favorite tunes and singing in the car. Every day, take another small step to reclaim your power and your voice and your place in the sun!

Peace and Power!
